Industry Vet Rejoins CableLabs

CableLabs confirmed that industry engineering exec vet Doug Jones has come on board recently as principal architect, where he is focused on the organization’s wired technologies group.

Jones, who was named to the post full-time in early April after working as a contractor there since last November, will work on optical technologies and applications and projects such as DOCSIS 3.1, Full Duplex DOCSIS, and backhaul for wireless services.

Jones most recently was VP of access technologies at Comcast, focused on areas such as DOCSIS, PON, fiber-to-the-home, WiFi and HFC networks. Before that, he was chief cable architect at BigBand Networks, the switched digital video specialist acquired by Arris in 2011.

Jones was also the chief architect at YAS Broadband Ventures, the V.C. run by cable modem technology pioneer Rouzbeh Yassini, was also involved with CableLabs from 1996 to 2002 and worked on the original DOCSIS project, and was also an engineer at MediaOne and US West Advanced Technologies.
