Optimum Online Adds Security Tools

Cablevision Systems Corp.’s Optimum Online high-speed-data service has added a full suite of online-security tools from Computer Associates International Inc.

Subscribers can visit the service’s consumer portal (www.optonline.net/Home) and download antivirus, firewall and parental-control software free-of-charge.

The three programs are: “eTrustEZ Antivirus2005,” which detects and eliminates viruses, worms and Trojan horses and includes automatic virus updates and advanced e-mail-attachment protection; “eTrustEZ Firewall2005,” which prevents unauthorized visitors through three available security settings; and “eTrustEZ Armor 2005,” which adds parental controls to the first two programs.

“Internet security has always been a primary focus for Optimum Online, which is why we were one of the first Internet-service providers to make online-security tools easily accessible to our customers,” Cablevision executive vice president of consumer-product management and marketing Patricia Gottesman said in a prepared statement.
