Pace Opens the Gateway6/16/2004 4:03 AM Eastern
Pace Micro Technology plc demonstrated what it called the first Motorola Inc.-based Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification set-top gateway (DSG) at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ Cable-Tec Expo Wednesday.
The vendor said its new “DC515” set-top uses its integrated DOCSIS channel to carry out-of-band set-top signals.
Features supported include live DSG messaging, simultaneous DOCSIS Internet access with connectivity for online multiplayer gaming and concurrent streaming of video over Internet protocol in real-time to stand-alone PCs.
“DSG offers cable operators the new out-of-band communications that can be used for conditional access, messaging and new services, while leveraging the investment made in a high-speed-data network,” Pace Americas chief technologist Chris Dinallo said in a prepared statement.
“Furthermore, it promotes the transition toward an all-digital network by reducing dependency on the legacy infrastructure and allows for advanced DOCSIS two-way services,” he added.
