Paul Jacobson is an effective, well-respected, cable industry communicator. In his current position at Adelphia Communications Corp., he has risen to the challenge of repairing the company’s damaged reputation following accounting fraud charges and convictions of its top executives.
When Jacobson and the new management team arrived, he implemented a strategic communications plan to return credibility to the company and to maintain a tone of honesty and transparency throughout the management shift and bankruptcy procedures. Jacobson reached out to a wide range of audiences, from employees to Wall Street to customers in small towns across America. Through aggressive message construction and media tours, he helped ensure that Adelphia spoke with one voice and a consistent message.
Jacobson oversaw the decentralization of management control and restoration of local franchise relationships, most notably in Los Angeles, Cleveland, Vermont and southern Florida. He also made sure that all employees understood the new company-wide zero-tolerance ethics policy.
Jacobson handled his responsibilities at Adelphia thanks to the breadth of experience he brought with him from other positions in the cable and entertainment industry and in public service. His career includes work as deputy communications director for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R.-Tenn), where he oversaw communications for Medicare and prescription drug legislation as it moved through the Senate and served as spokesperson on several issues.
Jacobson headed up communications at another cable industry company, Starz Encore Group LLC, where he promoted the network’s early innovations in programming strategy including subscription video-on-demand and an online subscription movie service. Jacobson established relationships with several charitable organizations. Under his watch Starz joined the Make-A-Wish Foundation in making dreams come true for terminally-ill children, a sponsorship that Starz still takes part in today.
Jacobson serves on the Board of Directors of CTPAA as well as Cable Positive, and is active in the Denver Film Society.
