RCN Plays with Gaming Service

Overbuilder RCN Corp. plans to launch a premium gaming service this week that executives expect will attract high-speed-data subscribers to its platform.

The service, branded "RCN interACTION," offers access to about 40 games, including Atari titles, the popular "Civilization III Conquest" and "Unreal Tournament."

RCN will pitch the service to its high-speed-data subscribers, charging $14.95 for unlimited access. It’s offering a half-price promotion for the next three months.

Director of Internet-product management and development Elad Nafshi anticipates a boost in RCN’s high-speed-data-subscriber count, which currently runs "north of 200,000," but he wouldn’t discuss specific projections.
