Solekai Hooks Up With Comcast's RDKComcast Hosting Conference on Set-Top Development Initiative This Week in NYC 12/10/2012 12:59 AM Eastern
Digital video engineering shop Solekai Systems announced it has licensed Comcast’s Reference Development Kit software stack, ahead of a two-day conference the MSO is hosting this week in New York around the initiative aimed at next-gen set-tops and video gateways.
Comcast’s RDK is a pre-integrated software bundle for powering tru2way, IP or hybrid set-top boxes and video gateway devices. The initiative is intended to speed up the development and deployment of next-generation video services such as cloud-based functionality and enhanced guides.
San Diego-based Solekai said it will support the implementation of the RDK in set-top development, multiscreen integration and bit-stream testing solutions.
“We’re very excited to engage in support of the RDK in order to reduce time to market for our current and future clients in the digital video space,” Solekai executive vice president of engineering Tim McConnell said.
Comcast has engineered broad support for the RDK initiative from its supplier base. Those on board include Arris Group, Cisco Systems, Google’s Motorola Mobility, Intel, Pace, Technicolor, Evolution Digital, Itaas, Entropic Communications, S3 Group and Broadcom.
MSOs evaluating the RDK include Time Warner Cable and Charter Communications.
This week, Comcast is hosting a private conference for RDK developers in New York City. Executives from Comcast, TWC, Solekai and other tech vendors are expected to be in attendance.
The 2012 RDK Developers Community Conference, to be held Dec. 11-12 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, is an invitation-only event, according to a Comcast spokeswoman.
