Sony Shows Off HDTV Sets2/25/2004 8:21 AM Eastern
Sony Electronics Corp. displayed one-dozen fully integrated HDTV sets designed to include CableCARD-based interface technology at its annual "Open House" event for consumer-electronics retailers.
With the CableCARD technology, consumers insert a cable card into an integrated slot in the television. The card acts as a removable key, opening access to HDTV on any compatible set or HDTV receiver.
Sony's lineup features models ranging from 30- to 60-inch screen sizes and encompassing the "FD Trinitron," "WEGA" direct-view cathode-ray tube, "Grand WEGA" micro-display LCD and CRT rear-projection television categories.
The company said its first integrated HDTV sets with CableCARD-based interface technology will begin shipping in August.
