Study: Set-Top Shipments to Double by ‘0911/30/2004 9:13 AM Eastern
According to a new report from IMS Research, worldwide digital set-top shipments will reach nearly 90 million units by 2009, almost double the expected 2004 volume of 47.8 million units.
IMS expects the Asia-Pacific region to be a key driver, saying it sees that area accounting for more than 40% of worldwide set-top shipments by 2009 compared with 28% for 2004.
“As regulators, pay TV providers and terrestrial broadcasters continue to migrate consumers to digital programming, the worldwide market for digital set-top boxes will see strong momentum, accelerating during the latter half of the decade,” IMS’ Paul Erickson said in a prepared statement.
“In particular, the growth expected for the Asia-Pacific region is dominated by China’s vast television market,” he added.
