Teleste Helps DNA Shift to DOCSIS 3.1

Teleste said it has inked a deal to assist DNA Ltd., Finland’s largest cable operator, with an upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1, a new multi-gigabit platform for HFC networks.

Teleste said its network services unit will head up the network design for the upgrade in Southern Finland, and also assist with field installations that will cover nearly 1,500 “network sites.” For the upgrade, DNA will also use Teleste’s “DOCSIS 3.1-compatible network products” for the upgrade, including AC3010 and AC3210 amplifiers that were introduced this spring.

DNA serves more than 3.7 million mobile communications and fixed network customers in Finland.

“This is the first comprehensive network implementation in Finland where the cable network will be upgraded to take full advantage of the DOCSIS 3.1 technology from headend to home. As a result, the next generation cable networks will take a significant step forward in Finland as well,” Matti Nurmi, director of Teleste Network Services in Finland, said in a statement.

In the U.S., Comcast has launched an “advanced consumer trial”of DOCSIS 3.1in Atlanta, and appears to be nearing a similar launch in Nashville. Comcast has also identified Chicago, Detroit and Miami as markets where it will deploy DOCSIS 3.1 in the second half of 2016.
