Time Warner Cable said over the next three years it will hire an additional 225 employees at its Charlotte, N.C., corporate campus and invest more than $101 million in two new buildings, which will include one of the MSO's two national data centers.

Under a grant agreement with the state of North Carolina, the 225 new employees will all be hired by 2014 and include accounting, finance, engineering, information technology and human resources professionals.

According to the governor's office, the average salary for the new jobs created by Time Warner Cable will be $61,044 per year, not including benefits, compared with the Mecklenburg County, N.C., average annual wage of $51,584.

Under the terms of the state's Job Development Investment Grant, the cable operator is eligible to receive a grant equal to 60% of the state personal income withholding taxes derived from the creation of new jobs for each of the nine years in which the company meets annual performance targets. If TWC meets the targets called for under the agreement, the JDIG could yield $2.9 million in maximum benefits for the company.

The planned 178,000-square-foot, two-story data center in Charlotte will include 1,600 racks of technical equipment and a 12,000-foot raised floor. The building will provide a virtualized "cloud" environment, which the MSO said will let it more quickly deploy services by having storage and network elements in a shared environment. In addition, the building is designed to double in equipment size to accommodate future growth. The data center facility is expected to be finished by the end of 2012.

The second building is a four-story, 103,500-square-foot facility with an estimated completion date of 2013. As part of this project, the current parking deck will be expanded.

"Time Warner Cable is proud to be expanding our corporate presence in North Carolina and bringing these new jobs to Charlotte," Carol Hevey, executive vice president of operations for Time Warner Cable's East Region, said in a statement. "With the addition of these positions, Time Warner Cable will employ nearly 2,800 people in the Charlotte area and more than 6,400 employees across North Carolina."

Commenting on the announcement, North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue said, "Time Warner Cable has long known what more and more companies across the country are discovering every day: North Carolina is the right place to grow business. Time Warner Cable's sustained ability to grow in our state shows that we are providing the business environment, skilled workforce and infrastructure that businesses need."

TWC owns 33 acres of land at the Charlotte Corporate Campus, located on Crescent Executive Drive in Charlotte.

Separately, last week TWC said it will consolidate sales operations for its Northeast region in the Albany, N.Y., area, with plans to hire at least 50 new employees and relocate more than 135 professional positions to the area.
