TVN Entertainment Corp. will provide video-on-demand programming and services to Verizon Communications under terms of a deal announced Monday.

TVN said it will provide the telco with VOD programming including new studio releases, a library of previous releases, independent movies, family and kids’ programming and free-on-demand and specialty VOD networks.

Verizon will also use TVN's advanced services, including its “TVNow” rapid-turnaround service, which enables subscribers to order news and events, such as the presidential inauguration, within hours of their occurrence.

Verizon’s “FiOS TV” service, set to launch later this year, will deliver hundreds of digital channels, HD programming, an interactive programming guide and other features via the telco's fiber-to-the-premises broadband network, which is currently under construction in parts of 12 states.

“Verizon, the largest telecommunications company in the United States, is building an advanced TV platform that will showcase the extraordinary appeal of VOD," TVN executive vice president Jim Riley said in a prepared statement.

Verizon FiOS TV VP of marketing and programming Terry Denson added, “FiOS TV customers will be delighted at how easy it is to choose from thousands of hours of VOD programming thanks to TVN's extensive on-demand-content portfolio and advanced platform, coupled with our fiber-to-the-premises network.”
