12/15/2004 2:09 AM Eastern

Voom’s WorldSport HD is ready to hit the ice and the hardwood.

The Rainbow DBS-owned HD sports network said Wednesday that it has acquired the exclusive HD U.S. broadcast rights to the 2004-2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and to Euroleague Basketball.

WorldSport HD will air all 21 games of the World Junior Hockey Championships from Grand Forks, N.D., with the opening faceoff coming Christmas at 8:30 p.m. (EST), when the United States battles Russia.

The tournament features the best under-20-year-old players from Belarus, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

As for hoops, beginning in January, WorldSport HD will present a live "Euroleague Game of the Week" throughout the remainder of the regular season, as well as postseason broadcasts, highlighted by complete coverage of the Final Four in Moscow May 6-8.

WorldSport HD’s schedule will tip off Jan. 6, with top-ranked Montepaschi Siena taking on 2004 world champion Maccabi Tel Aviv.
