HDNet will present the first-ever high-definition broadcast of a surfing competition April 7 when it airs the 2003-04 Mavericks Surf Contest, the network announced Thursday.
This year’s competition was held in Half Moon Bay, Calif., Feb. 27, and it attracted 24 surfing pros, 15,000 spectators and 20,000 Web-site (www.maverickssurf.com) visitors.
HDNet will present all of the great rides and wipeouts in 1080i (interlaced) format.
"We’re thrilled to be taking the ultimate surfing contest and combining it with the ultimate television viewing experience -- a winning combination," HDNet cofounder and president Mark Cuban said in a prepared statement.
