Mexicanal Secures Carriage Berth with AT&T U-verse

AT&T U-verse has launched Mexicanal on a number of its Latino packages.

Mexicanal, featuring programming from across various regions of Mexico, is a joint venture of Atlanta-based Castalia Communications and Mexico’s Cablecom.

The network is now available on channel 3021 on U-verse TV’s Paquete Español, U200Latino, U300Latino and U450 Latino offerings. Financial terms were not disclosed.

With the rollout, Mexicanal expands its Stateside distribution that also includes the nation’s top two distributors Comcast and DirecTV, as well as Mediacom Communications.

Launched in 2004, the channel, aimed at the more than 30 million Mexican-Americans, combines news, entertainment and sports programming from a number of affiliates representing regions all across Mexico, as well as its own original programming.

“Mexicanal is a great addition to the U-verse lineup,” said AT&T vice president of content Ryan Smith. “We are always looking for better ways to serve our diverse customer base, and this channel — with its programs from nearly every region in Mexico — is truly a unique offering.”

Noted Mexicanal vice president of affiliate relations Mark Henderson: “Today’s news reaffirms our commitment to keep Mexican viewers connected with programming from their hometowns and heritage. We are very pleased to work with AT&T expanding Mexicanal’s reach to U-verse customers.”
