64% of U.S. Homes Get an SVOD Service: Survey

Some 64% of U.S. households have a subscription VOD service from Netflix, Amazon and/or Hulu, up from 47% in 2014, and 51% take more than one of those services, up from 35% in 2014, Leichtman Research Group found in a new study.

Per LRG’s Emerging Video Services XI, an annual study based on a survey of 1,207 consumers 18 years or older in the continental U.S., SVOD usage also continues to climb, with 29% of adults streaming an SVOD service on a daily basis, compared to 16% in 2015. Among a younger subset of consumers 18 to 34, that figure climbs to 51%, up from 33% in 2015.

And pay TV homes tend to complement that service with SVOD options. LRG said 62% of pay-TV subscribers have an SVOD service, versus 72% of homes with a TV that do not get a pay-TV service.

Among other findings, LRG said 83% of SVOD homes get Netflix, and that 75% of those with Netflix also have a pay TV service, down from 85% in 2012.
