ABC Family’s original drama series Lincoln Heightsdrew 1.66 million viewers in its Sept. 16 third-season premiere episode, its best premiere showing ever.

The series, starring Russell Hornsby (ESPN’s Playmakers) as an African-American police officer who moves his family from the suburbs to the inner-city neighborhood he grew up in, also drew its second-best audience of all time, falling short of the series’ Nov. 6. 2007 second-season finale, which drew 1.68 million viewers.

The series’ season-three premiere also surpassed its sophomore opener in core demos, increasing by 6% in total viewers (1.7 million vs. 1.6 million), by 5% among adults 18-49 (646,000 vs. 614,000) by 10% in women 18-49 (472,000 vs. 428,000) and by 21% in females 12-34 (653,000 vs. 540,000).

Versus its own year-ago time period average, Lincoln Heights delivered solid gains, up by 31% in total viewers, by 7% in adults 18-49, by 18% in women 18-49, by 14% in persons 12-34 and by 29% in females 12-34, according to the network.
