Abrams Named MSNBC GM

6/12/2006 6:06 AM Eastern

MSNBC anchor Dan Abrams is leaving the anchor desk to take over as general manager of the all-news network following the exit last week of president Rick Kaplan.

NBC News said Monday morning that Abrams will report to Phil Griffin, who was most recently vice president of primetime programming. The company didn’t name Griffin’s new title in the announcement.

Abrams is stepping down from anchoring MSNBC’s nightly The Abrams Report legal show. But he’ll remain chief legal correspondent for NBC News, contributing to Today and other NBC and MSNBC shows.

Abrams is the son of well-known First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams.
