A&E’s Biography Does Reality4/15/2004 6:30 AM Eastern
Reality fever has infected A&E Network’s signature show, Biography.
The network will debut Biography: Stars of Reality TV April 20 at 8 p.m. (EST/PST). It examines why people agree to appear on reality shows.
According to the network, there are three types of reality stars: “nobodies who became somebodies” (Richard Hatch, Darva Conger, Trista Rehn); “somebodies who saw nobodies getting famous and wanted a piece of the action” (Donald Trump, Paris Hilton, Carmen Electra); and “D-listers” (Tammy Faye (Bakker) Messner, Vanilla Ice, Gary Coleman).
“We’ll look at why people are so obsessed with fame, why people who are already famous are jumping on the bandwagon, why the viewing audience is so attracted to reality TV and why the medium is a win-win situation benefiting participants, viewers, advertisers and the television executives who green-light the shows in the first place,” the network said in a prepared statement.
Among the highlights of Biography: Stars of Reality TV: a behind-the-scenes look at an audition for the second season of The Apprentice; interviews with reality stars including Hatch and Rudy Boesch from Survivor and Conger from Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire; and an interview with Carmen Electra behind the scenes with her at Planet Hollywood and MTV: Music Television’s Total Request Live.
