Akamai, thePlatform Power White-Label OTT-VOD Offering

Unified Video Technologies said it has hooked up with Akamai Technologies and Comcast-owned media publishing unit thePlatform on the development of its recently launched “uVOD” system, a white-label, over-the-top video-on-demand product that UNIV is pitching to telcos, cable operators and Internet service providers.

UNIV, which manages the backend (including ingest and distribution) for uVOD, said it’s using Akamai’s Sola Sphere content delivery workflow and thePlatform’s multiscreen mpx media publishing system to deliver on-demand fare to PCs, smartphones, tablets and other devices.

“Our collaboration with Akamai and thePlatform ensures that customers can enjoy affordable VOD services that are deployed in a fraction of the time of on-premise solutions,” said Pablo Goldstein, CEO of UNIV, in a statement.

UNIV launched uVOD in July, holding that the pricing and capex model is tailored for tier 2/3 operators, and can suit tier 1 operators “whose legacy VOD solutions are reaching obsolesce.”

UNIV has not announced any uVOD deployment deals.
