BBC America said it is building a Friday-night primetime block of cult classic British dramas, buying 150 hours of such shows as The Avengers, The Saint, The Prisoner and ThePersuaders.
Starting July 9, the channel will kick off Friday nights with The Avengers, starring Dame Diana Rigg as spy Emma Peel, at 8 p.m. (EST/PST), followed by Roger Moore in The Saint at 9 p.m. and Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner at 10 p.m.
The Persuaders -- with Roger Moore and Tony Curtis as wealthy playboys drawn into a life of danger and intrigue -- will join the lineup this fall.
Among other things, vice president of programming David Bernath said of the shows, all of which aired in the States: “The fashion and the music are incredibly cool and fit perfectly with our brand.”
This fills out BBC America’s new primetime-programming blocks. Mondays feature mystery movies, Tuesdays and Saturdays are for lifestyle programs, Wednesdays and Thursdays showcase British comedies and Sundays spotlight original fare.
