BBC America's 'Copper' Gets a New Partner

Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures' (AMC's Hell On Wheels and Broken Trail) co-founders Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev are joining the production team for the second season of the BBC America and Shaw Media drama series Copper. Pre-production is currently underway, with shooting set to start next month in Toronto.  BBCA and Canada's Shaw Media upped the episode order for season 2 to 13 episodes from the first season's 10.

“The first season of Copper was an amazing accomplishment,” Oakes said in a release. “It’s a testament to Cineflix Studios’ commitment to high- quality scripted series, and what attracted us to this project.”

Copper, Cineflix Studios’ inaugural project, was ordered straight to series and went on to become BBC America’s highest-rated series premiere and highest-rated drama series overall. The second-season order was announced in October.

From executive producers Barry Levinson, Tom Fontana, Will Rokos and Cineflix Studios president Christina Wayne, Copper follows Detective Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones, pictured, with co-star Franka Potente), a rugged Irish immigrant cop, as he seeks justice for the powerless in 1864 New York City. Season two executive producers include Levinson, Fontana, Rokos, Wayne, Tom Kelly, Sherri Rufh, Sam Berliner and Katherine Buck.
