Performers in cable movies and series copped 18 of 40 Screen Actors Guild awards nominations, announced in Hollywood last Tuesday, including a sweep of the nods for best female performance by an actress in a movie or miniseries.

ESPN, new to original film programming, scored a nomination for Barry Pepper for its original biopic 3, about legendary National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing driver Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Home Box Office scored the most nods, with 10, followed by Turner Network Television with three, Showtime with two and FX, ESPN and USA Network with one each.

Cable has a four in five chance at a statuette for one of its male TV-movie performers. Nominees include Pepper; Geoffrey Rush for HBO’s The Life and Death of Peter Sellers; Jamie Foxx as gang leader Tookie Williams in Showtime’s Redemption; and William H. Macy in TNT’s The Wool Hat.

Sex and the City, late of HBO, will have a chance at SAG awards for star Sarah Jessica Parker and its ensemble cast.

The awards will be televised on TNT Feb. 5.
