CNBC Licenses Off-Network Rights to 'Shark Tank'ABC Reality Series Will Debut on Financial net Early in 2014 10/01/2013 4:14 PM Eastern
CNBC has licensed the exclusive off-network cable rights to Disney-ABC's Shark Tank, it was announced Tuesday by CNBC president amd CEO Mark Hoffman.
CNBC will begin airing Shark Tank in January 2014 with an expanded schedule in the fall. As part of the agreement, CNBC’s TV Everywhere platfpr, will make a selection of Shark Tank episodes available on demand.
“Shark Tank’s motivational stories are wrapped in the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship,” said Hoffman. “The ‘Sharks’ are self-made mega successes and the contestants seek their money and counsel as they plot their own paths to the American dream. That practical knowledge and aspirational theme is pitch perfect for CNBC at night.”
Since launching in 2009 on ABC, Shark Tank’s audience has grown each campaign. The program premiered its fifth season Sept. 20 as the night’s No. 1 TV show with the series’ most-watched season premiere ever.
