CNN Slips During Busy News WeekFNC Sets Cable News Pace with LAX Shooting Coverage 11/04/2013 2:39 PM Eastern
Despite a busy news week that featured Kathleen Sebelius’ testimony on the controversial rollout of Obamacare and the shootings at LAX, CNN saw its audience and key demo totals drop to its low point in more than a year.
CNN averaged 385,000 viewers, including 95,000 adults 25 to 54 in primetime, the fewest for the network since Aug. 6, 2012.
For its part, Fox News Channel averaged 2.37 million viewers, a total that included 377,000 of the so-called news demo, while MSNBC registered with 683,000 total viewers and 150,000 in the demo during the daypart.
Relative to the tragedy at LAX on Friday Nov. 1, Fox News averaged 1.55 million viewers from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (ET) and 292,000 demo watchers, followed by 807,000 and 233,000 for CNN and 409,000 and 86,000 for MSNBC. Compared to third-quarter time period averages, FNC was up 46% and 47%, CNN grew 48% and 60%. MSNBC was up 13% in audience, but slipped 16% with the demo.
