Comcast Plugs Into Showtime Anytime

AT&T, DirecTV, Cablevision and Verizon also Support Showtime's Homespun TV Everywhere app 4/12/2013 10:44 AM Eastern

Comcast has extended support to Showtime Anytime, Showtime's stand-alone TV Everywhere app for  iOS and Android devices and PC browsers.

Previously, Comcast offered TV Everywhere movies and originals from Showtime, including Homeland, Dexter and Shameless, only via the MSO's Xfinity TV Player App and on the Web at It now offers customers the ability to access that content via the Comcast-run options or the Showtime app.

Comcast's Showtime subscribers can log into the premium channel's app using their Xfinity TV credentials.

The addition of Comcast, which ended 2012 with 21.2 million digital video subscribers, gives Showtime Anytime a connection with the nation's largest pay-TV operator.  AT&T U-verse, DirecTV, Cablevision Systems and Verizon FiOS also support the premium programmer's app.

In 2010, Comcast was the first to Showtime content online, when it offered access via the Web, noted  Comcast SVP of digital and emerging platforms Matt Strauss, on the MSO's corporate blog.

Late last year, Comcast added a feature on the Xfinity TV Player that lets authenticated customers download TV shows and movies from Showtime, Starz and other suppliers to smartphones and tablets.

Comcast also supports HBO's stand-alone TV Everywhere app, HBO GO, but has yet to extend it to Starz Play.

Starz is hoping to offer Starz Play to Comcast customers by the end of the year, a Starz spokeswoman said via email. In the meantime, the MSO does provide access to TV Everywhere content from Starz via the Web and the Xfinity TV Player app.
