Cox Goes Multiscreen with MoviePlex

Cox Communications has launched the full suite of MoviePlex services, including the live linear channels, video-on-demand (VoD) for set-tops, and MoviePlex Play, the authenticated TV Everywhere service that runs on Web browsers and Apple's iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Cox is offering the new premium lineup to customers who take its Advanced TV package.

Last October, Cox became the first distributor to launch Starz Play and Encore Play. It’s now the second pay-TV operator, behind AT&T, to launch all three of TV Everywhere services from the Starz stable.  Verizon Communications FiOS TV and DirecTV currently offer access to Starz Play and Encore Play.

As a complement to Starz and Encore, MoviePlex offers more than 200 commercial-free movies each month. Some current and upcoming titles include Ghostbusters, Jack, The Net, The River Wild, Wag The Dog, and The English Patient.

“These TV Everywhere premium services further increase the value of what we offer Cox TV Online and Cox High Speed Internet Bundle customers,” said Cox EVP of product management and development Len Barlik, in a statement.

Starz and Encore serve a combined 56 million subscribers, including 21 million at Starz and 35 million at Encore. The company does not break out its base of MoviePlex subscribers.
