Cox Puts Sports Pak 2 in Play in Three More Markets

After rolling out the tier in Oklahoma, Cox Communications will launch its new sports package in three more markets on Sept. 6.

Cox Sports Pak 2, currently accessible in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla., will be available to the MSO’s Advanced TV customers in Cleveland, Rhode Island and Connecticut, starting on Friday.

The package, depending on the market, includes Big Ten Network,  Pac 12 Network, World Fishing Network, Outside TV, Universal Sports, Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and Cox Sports TV, as well as NFL Network and its ad hoc scoring channel, NFL Red Zone.

Subscribers to the Advanced TV level of service can purchase Cox Sports Pak 2 for an additional $10 per month. One of the MSO’s most popular packages, Advanced TV retails for around $60 monthly, with promotional pricing around $40, according to MSO officials.

The new service appears to be an alternative to Cox's Sports & Information Pak, which had included NFL Red Zone and NFL Network among its 37 news and sports channels.  In the past, customers that wanted the NFL Red Zone had to subscribe to the Sports & Information tier for about $8.50 per month in addition to their Advanced TV digital subscription, or purchase the service, which shows scores, highlights and action inside the 20-yard line, separately for $39.95 during the NFL season.  With the new tier, Cox is opening up NFL Network and NFL Red Zone to a wider swath of customers.
