Discovery CEO McHale to Resign

Discovery Communications veteran Judith McHale will resign in December from her post as president and CEO, the company said Tuesday, without naming a successor.

Discovery founder and chairman John Hendricks said that McHale – one of the highest ranking female execs in the cable industry -- will play an “on-going special role advising” him on Discovery’s education business initiatives, and continue to serve voluntarily as chairman of the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership.

“As hard as it is to leave this outstanding company, I believe passionately that we all have an obligation to participate fully and actively in the civic life of the communities in which we live,” McHale said in a prepared statement.

Discovery said it’ll consider a successor from both internal and external candidates.
