Fox’s live Emmy Awards telecast was a big hit on social media Sunday night, easily beating out all other non-sports shows for Twitter traffic, according to Nielsen.

The three-hour 67th Emmy Awards, in which HBO won 14 awards including the best drama award for Game Of Thrones, show drew more than 1 million Tweets reaching a unique Twitter audience of more than 8.5 million users, according to the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings chart.

The Emmy’s strong social media performance didn’t help the telecast’s viewership numbers. The telecast was down 16% compared to last year’s festivities, according to Nielsen fast national numbers.

The WWE’s WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view event was a distant second, generating 267,000 tweets and reaching 1.5 million unique users. AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead drew 46,000 tweets that were viewed by 1.1 million unique Twitter users.

On the sports side, live NFL games populated Nielsen’s top five most social telecasts, led by Fox’s Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles NFL telecast, which generated 1.1 million Tweets reaching 7.3 million unique Twitter users, according to Nielsen.
