Floyd Mayweather Toughs Out Win Over Marcos Maidana

Pound-For-Pound pay-per-view champion Floyd Mayweather gutted out a majority decision win over former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana in an exciting PPV boxing event Saturday.

Mayweather, the prohibitive favorite going into the fight, had to battle a game and aggressive Maidana for 12 rounds to win a decision on two of the three judges cards, with the third judge calling it a draw. Mayweather, the most lucrative PPV fighter in history, was slowed early in the fight by Maidana’s swarming punches and had to fight through a cut over his eye due to a head butt in the fourth round that temporarily blinded him. Mayweather, who earned a guaranteed minimum of $32 million for his efforts as part of his six-fight, $200 million deal with Showtime, eventually rallied in the later rounds to remain undefeated at 46-0.

In a post-fight interview, Mayweather said he would consider giving Maidana a rematch in what could be a big PPV event this fall.

Mayweather-Maidana was the main event of a four-fight card that featured decision wins by former junior welterweight champion and potential future Mayweather opponent Amir Kahn and Mayweather protégée Adrien Bronner.
