Food Network Drops Paula Deen: Reports

Food Network is severing ties with Paula Deen, saying it would not renew the celebrity chef’s contract when it expires at the end of the month, according to multiple reports.

Deen came under fire this week for racially insensitive comments made during a legal deposition. Food Network’s decision to drop her comes after Deen released two videos on Friday apologizing for her use of racial slurs. She was schedule to appear on NBC’s Today show Friday but canceled the appearance due to “exhaustion.”

A Scripps spokesperson had not responded to request for comment at press time.

Deen joined Food Network in 1999 and has hosted several shows, including Paula’s Home Cooking, Paula’s Party and Paula’s Best Dishes.
