Former Comedy Central programming executive Kathryn Mitchell will assume BBC America’s newly created general manager position as part of a series of network organizational and programming moves, according to BBC America CEO Bill Hilary.

Mitchell -- who will oversee programming, marketing, on-air, operations and development for 41.5 million-subscriber BBC America -- spent three years at Comedy as senior vice president of programming before leaving the network last October.

BBC America will double its current investment in programming over the next two years and create an original-programming division to explore opportunities for network-produced movies, specials and series, the network said.

In addition, communications executive Jo Petherbridge was elevated to senior VP of corporate communications, online and strategy.

Hilary -- who joined BBC America last September after a four-year stint at Comedy -- also said Wednesday that the network will relocate its offices to New York from Bethesda, Md., later this year.
