fuboTV Launches Beta of New, Bigger OTT-TV Service

fuboTV, the sports-focused virtual MVPD, has launched the beta version of a new OTT offering that packs on more channels and comes on the heels of recent carriage deals with some major programmers that more than doubled its original content slate.

fuboTV is selling its flagship "Premier" tier for $34.99 per month, a special limited time price that will eventually be raised to $49.99 per month.

fuboTV Premier offers 45-plus channels, including NBCSN, FS1, FS2, beIN Sports, Bravo, NBC Universo, Fox Deportes, FX, FXX, Viceland, USA, Fox Soccer Plus, History,  A&E, Syfy, The Weather Channel, Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC, Sprout , One World Sports, and Football Report TV.

The new beta offering also features a handful of add-on packages, including  Entertainment Plus ($5.99 per month), Portuguese Plus ($14.99 per month), Deportes Extra ($5.99 per month), Mundo Plus ($5.99 per month), Fubo Latino ($12.99 per month), Kids Plus ($2.99 per month), and News Plus ($5.99 per month).

Other core packages from the OTT provider include fubo Latino ($14.99 per month) and fubo Português ($19.99 per month).

fuboTV, which will tangle with virtual MVPDs such as Sling TV, DirecTV Now and PlayStation Vue, set the stage for the new packages in December, when it announced carriage deals with Fox Networks Group, NBCUniversal, A+E Networks, Crown Media Family Networks, Fuse Media, NBA TV and The Weather Channel.

At the time, company CEO and co-founder David Gandler said customers who sign on for base package at the promotional price will get to keep it after fuboTV raises it to $49.99 per month in about 12 months. He said fuboTV plans to sunset its former $9.99 per month service and incent current subscribers sign up for the new, fuller version of fuboTV.

Per the fuboTV site, the service currently supports the following platforms -- iOS and  Android mobile devices, Roku players, Fire TV devices, Apple TV (fourth-generation) boxes, Web browsers, Android TV devices, and the Google Chromecast streaming adapter.

The FAQ said subs can stream up to two devices at the same time, and that the service supports a cloud DVR that initially allows users to watch recorded shows on Web browsers and its iOS and Android apps and the Fire TV.

A fuboTV subscription provides up to “3 DVR slots at time,” with plans to add more, and notes that recorded shows becomes available immediately after a live program ends, but “expires after 72 hours.”

fuboTV said it plans to introduce more features to the new OTT TV product in the coming weeks and months.

Update: fuboTV has not announced when the promotional price on the Premier tier will end. Regarding the cloud DVR, fuboTV will extend that capability to the new channels in the coming weeks, but that functionality is currently supported on all channels that were available on fuboTV prior to the beta launch of the new version of the service.

The packages referenced above are offered only in the U.S. and U.S. territories, but for consumers who live north of the border, fuboTV also offers a Canadian  Basic Package that includes beIN Sports Canada, beIN Sports Spanish, Benfica TV, Primeira Liga TV, The Football Report, and fuboTV Channel.
