fuboTV, the sports-heavy OTT TV provider, said it surpassed the 100,000 subscriber mark in September.

The milestone comes about eight months after fuboTV introduced the beta version of a flagship “Premier” package, which today is being sold for $19.99 per month for the first two months, and $39.99 per month thereafter (except in the New York area, where it's $44.99 per month thereafter for a package that includes MSG and MSG+) under a new, recently announced pricing structure. In July 2016, when fuboTV was still marketing a much smaller, soccer-focused package of channels for $9.99 per month, the provider said it had surpassed 70,000 subscribers. This is the first time fuboTV has announced sub figures since launching its new, larger package.

Though 100,000 is a nice round number, fuboTV’s sub base trails other virtual MVPDs, including DirecTV Now, which ended Q2 with about 500,000 subscribers. Sling TV, Dish Network's OTT TV service has about 2 million subs, according to a recent comScore estimate. PlayStation Vue, Sony's streaming TV service, reportedly crossed the 100,000 subscriber barrier in mid-2016. YouTube TV hasn't released sub figures, but data from Sensor Tower and App Annie released in July found that consumers had downloaded and installed the YouTube TV app 2 million times. In July, Bloomberg reported that YouTube TV and Hulu had managed to sign on about 160,000 subscribers combined for their new OTT-delivered pay TV services.

fuboTV, like PS Vue, recently inked a partnership with the National Cable Television Cooperative, a group that represents several indie cable operators. That agreement could help fuboTV gain some ground with broadband-only subscribers served by that contingent.

“We are pleased to have surpassed the symbolic 100,000-subscriber milestone so quickly – following investments in national and regional sports networks, and the infrastructure to support this expanded array of premium content,” fuboTV co-founder and CEO David Gandler, said in a statement.  “Given macro tailwinds driven by a fundamental change in consumer behavior, we anticipate the next 100,000 subscribers to join fuboTV at an accelerating pace.”
