‘Game of Thrones;' ‘VMA Awards’ Dominate Sunday’s Social Media TV Ratings

HBO’s Game of Thrones season finale and MTV’s Video Music Awards special drew more than 8 million social media interactions Sunday night, according to Nielsen.

The Game of Thrones season seven finale drew a series record 4.1 million Facebook and Twitter interactions from more than 2.2 million unique users to top all television shows on Aug. 27, according to Nielsen’s daily social content ratings report.

On HBO, the episode generated a series record 12.1 million viewers, 13% above the previous record of 10.7 million viewers set two weeks ago.

The VMA Awards finished a close second, garnering 3.9 million interactions from 1.8 million social media users. CBS’ Big Brother. HBO’s Insecure and Showtime’s Twin Peaks: The Return rounded out the top five most social entertainment shows for the day.

NBC’s San Francisco 49ers-Minnesota Vikings NFL pre-season football telecast was drew the most social media interactions for a live sports telecast on Sunday, according to Nielsen.
