GolTV Expands Broadcast Rights to Asceno MX through 2014

GolTV is upping its telecat game with Mexican soccer, expanding its broadcast rights agreement with the Baral Group to air live matches from the Mexican Ascenso MX league through 2013-14.
With the renewal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, GolTV will air two top matches weekly and broadcast more than 60 matches per season from Mexico's second-division circuit. In addition, the extension also gives the hybrid service -- GolTV makes its futbol presentations available in both English and Spanish -- the option to expand and add more matches, leading to the playoffs and finals. In Mexico's Ascenso MX, the top team of the season is promoted to the country's top division, Liga MX.
GolTV officials said its Ascenso MX matches have generated significant audience increases, more than doubling its viewership among key demos. Given the league's Apertura and Clausura campaigns, GolTV is able to televise league action 11 months out of the year.
"GolTV's renewal of Ascenso MX and other recent agreements from the region make the network the number one destination for top soccer from Latin and South America," said Constantino Voulgaris, executive vice president of programming and business development at GolTV, in a statement. "As the status of international soccer and the Mexican-American population continues to grow in the U.S., GolTV will deliver live, HD matches that the deeply passionate fans of Ascenso teams demand."
