HBO, AMC's 'Breaking Bad' Lead SAG Awards

HBO garnered the most Actors and the Breaking Bad victory tour continued at the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night.

AMC’s Breaking Bad won its first outstanding ensemble award in a drama series for its penultimate campaign, while ABC’s Modern Family extended its run for outstanding ensemble in a comedy series to four.

The winning shows were also flanked by Actors for its leading men: Bryan Cranston, backing up his Gold Globe triumph, took home his second straight outstanding actor for his high school chemistry treacher turned crystal meth criminal mastermind Walter White, while Ty Burrell’s portrayal of Phil Dunphy denied Alec Baldwin an eighth consecutive comedy Actor for Jack Donaghey in the final season of NBC’s 30 Rock.

HBO doubled its Actor tally from the 19th SAG ceremony. The premium network swept the TV movie or miniseries category with wins by Helen Mirren in Phil Spector and ichael Douglas, whose mantle added more glitter for his take on Liberace in Behind the Candelabra.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus was the top female in a comedy for her performance in Veep. Fantasy series standout Game of Thrones scored the outstanding stunt performance award, which was delivered before SAG’s simulcast on TNT and TBS aired from the Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles.

Maggie Smith’s turn as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham, in PBS’s Downtown Abbey earned her the outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series. However, the Guild will have to send her the Actor, as Smith didn’t attend the ceremony.

Rita Moreno received the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
