HBO GO Launches On PlayStation 3Sony, HBO ‘Working Diligently’ On Extending Access To PS4 3/04/2014 1:09 PM Eastern
HBO GO launched on PlayStation 3 consoles Tuesday (March 4), a debut that comes about six weeks after HBO CEO Richard Plepler announced that the authenticated TV Everywhere service was coming to the popular gaming platform.
“We are also working diligently with HBO to bring the HBO GO app to PS4,” Phil Rosenberg, SVP of business development for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in this blog post. He didn’t offer an anticipated launch date, or if PS4 support will be ready in time for the season 4 premiere of Games of Thrones on April 6.
Sony also announced Tuesday that it had sold more than 6 million PS4 units as of March 2, a number that includes about 370,000 units sold in Japan since its launch there on February 22. The PlayStation 4, now available in 57 countries, went on sale in the U.S. and Canada on November 15, 2013.
The PlayStation 3 joins an expanding list of devices that support HBO GO, including iOS and Android-powered tablets and smartphones, the Apple TV, the Google Chromecast adapter, the Kindle Fire tablet, the Roku platform, Xbox 360 and Samsung smart TVs. HBO GO is also coming to the Xbox One, Microsoft’s new gaming console.
