CNN Headline News later this month will expand its successful “Headline Prime” lineup to seven days per week, Ken Jautz, executive vice president of CNN Worldwide, said Wednesday.
In a first for the cable news network, Prime News with Erica Hill, Nancy Grace and Showbiz Tonight will air on Saturdays and Sundays, joining Glenn Beck in the weekend primetime lineup. The schedule change takes effect June 17.
“We are very pleased with the way our Headline Prime lineup has performed during the week, so expanding it to the weekends was the next logical step in the continuing evolution of Headline News,” Jautz said in a prepared statement.
“Launching Glenn Beck across all seven days was a great way to test the waters, and the results prompted us to take a look at other ways we could build our weekend programming,” he added.
The weekend edition of Prime News with Erica Hill will be a compilation of various news segments from the previous week. Prime News will air at 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
The weekend editions of Glenn Beck will be encore presentations of the previous week’s shows, airing at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and midnight Sundays. Glenn Beck premiered May 8 and was the first primetime program to air seven days per week on Headline News.
The weekend edition of Nancy Grace will be an encore presentation of an episode from the previous week, along with an added segment of the week’s highlights. Nancy Grace will air at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturdays and 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Sundays.
The weekend edition of Showbiz Tonight will be a compilation of the week’s best entertainment stories and will air at 11 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition, Headline News’ weekends will include an encore presentation of CNN program OpenHouse.Hosted by Gerri Willis, Open House airs on CNN Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and examines a broad range of home and real estate issues. Saturday’s CNN edition of Open House will reair on Headline News Saturdays and Sundays at 5:30 p.m.
