History Spotlights Soccer in Spanish

Looking to piggyback on the excitement of the 2006 World Cup, History Channel en Español will run 10 hours of soccer fare over five nights under the heading, “Soccer … And Why We Love It.”

The programming, which kicked off on June 4 at 7 p.m. with a couple of hours focusing on the defending Cup champion Brazil, takes a look across soccer across Latin America, highlighting champions, great matches and the passions people in these nations share for the game. Other shows will look at the exploits of the sides from Argentina, Mexico, Uraguay and Colombia, as well as club teams.

The series of specials concludes on June 8 with Champions of the World: Roots, a look at the history and the culture of the sport throughout the region.
