It's 'A Thanksgiving State of Mind' for Joel on MSGN

If being home is where most be people want to be for the holidays, it's appropriate that MSG Network is serving up a Thanksgiving feast of its current house band at "The World's Most Famous Arena."

The regional sports network, home to the New York Knicks and Rangers, will air “A Thanksgiving State of Mind: The Billy Joel Marathon” -- a day of programming dedicated to the musician featuring six concert events along with the special Billy Joel Home at The Garden, the 30-minute documentary that provides fans an exclusive glimpse into preparations for Joel’s concerts at Madison Square Garden.

Beginning on Nov. 27 at 8 a.m. with Live from Rome, the Thanksgiving Day marathon highlights some of Joel’s most iconic concert events from 1982’s Live from Long Island through 2008’s Last Play at Shea, and landmark engagements such as Live from Yankee Stadium and River of Dreams.

Joel is 11 shows into a monthly residency at MSG that began on Jan. 27, 2014. He recently announced his 64th performance, which will tie Elton John’s record of the “most number of performances by any artist” at The Garden. The 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th shows are part of the Time Warner Cable Concert Series and will take place on Jan. 9, Feb. 18, March 9, April 3, May 28 and June 20, 2015, respectively.

The New Yorker reports that these monthly gigs gross $2 million in revenue, with the Oyster Bay resident bringing home about half that total.
