Layer3 TV Bulks Up Content Advisory Board

Layer3 TV, the next-gen cable operator, said it has added five industry vets to its content advisory board: John Hane, Preston Padden, Michael Regan, Jeff Sherwin and Dave Shull.

They join current board members Sean Riley and Brian Brady, and board chief Lindsay Gardner, Layer3 TV’s chief content officer.

The latest round of appointments follow recent launches by Layer3 TV in Los Angeles and in Longmont, Colo., through a partnership with municipal provider NextLight. Layer3 TV has also launched in the Washington, D.C., and Chicago metro arears. Denver is among the markets on deck.

Hane is a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, where he represents broadcasters, programmers and distributors. He is also late of NBC, New World Communications Group and Lockheed Martin.

Padden's career has included serving as president, network distribution, Fox Broadcasting Company; chairman and CEO, American Sky Broadcasting;  president, ABC Television Network; and EVP, government relations at The Walt Disney Company. Padden has also served on the boards of The National Association of Broadcasters and The Motion Picture Association of America.

Regan previously was EVP of global public policy at 21st Century Fox, and SVP of external affairs at NextWave Telecom, and as telecommunications counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Commerce.

Sherwin previously founded and served as This Technology, a video and ad-tech startup sold to Comcast in 2015. He also cofounded and served as managing director or Cauldron Solutions (now Anystream Media).

Shull is CEO of Weather Group, which heads up The Weather Channel television network and its new LocalNow local news service. He previously was chief commercial officer and EVP at Dish Network, and also served as Dish’s SVP of content acquisition and programming, and was managing director of EchoStar International.
