Layer3 TV Tunes in iHeartRadio

Has integrated digital music/radio/podcasting service on its set-top boxes 6/28/2017 4:36 PM Eastern

In its latest effort to blend pay TV with OTT, Layer3 TV said it has integrated the iHeartRadio digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service on all its set-top boxes.

iHeartRadio is the first live streaming radio app offered on Layer3 TV’s platform, which has already integrated Facebook and YouTube, with more apps to come.

The iHeartRadio app, accessible via the Layer3 TV user interface, lets subs search for and playback radio stations based on genre, location or keyword, pick from thousands of live radio stations, including certain local stations, create custom artist radio stations, and receive personal recommendations based on listening habits, location and musical preference.

Layer3 TV has launched service in Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Longmont, Colo., and has confirmed plans to enter the New York market.

“Layer3 TV customers expect us to deliver them the best television experience, but now they can also listen to all their favorite artists, music and local radio personalities thanks to Layer3 TV and iHeartRadio’s innovative integration,” Lindsay Gardner, Layer3 TV’s chief content officer, said in a statement. “On top of over 250 of the top television channels, iHeartRadio brings its seemingly unlimited music offerings into every Layer3 TV customer’s living room.”

“It’s our goal to make sure listeners have access to iHeartRadio everywhere they are, 24/7. This integration is yet another example of giving our listeners access to all their favorite music, radio personalities and stations on the products and services they use most,” added Jessica Jerrick, EVP of business development and partnerships at iHeartMedia.

Other U.S. MVPDs have likewise begun to integrate OTT music services on their pay TV platforms. Among examples, AT&T U-verse also offers iHeartRadio, and Dish Network and Comcast (for X1) have tied in Pandora.
