Marvell Chips in for New Chromecasts

Marvell is helping to power the tech engine that's running under the hood of Google’s new Chromecast devices, including a next-gen TV-connected adapter as well as the Chromecast Audio (pictured).

Marvell said its Armada 1500 Mini Plus (88DE3006) processor (a dual-core ARM Cortex-A7 multiscreen system)  and Avastar 88W8887 (which integrates 802.11ac and Bluetooth) solutions are on board, which are also used in a variety of smart TVs and other OTT platforms.  The Mini Plus is optimized for 1080p and supports multiple DRMs such as Verimatrix, Google’s Widevine and Microsoft’s PlayReady, the company said.

Google announced both new models last week, which both sell for $35. The new TV-connected model features improved WiFi connectivity and faster video streaming playback, while Chromecast Audio brings Internet connectivity to home speakers.
