CBS will be on the biggest stage in American sports with its presentation of Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on Feb. 3. As part of its all-encompassing approach to its coverage in the week leading up to the Big Game, CBS will erect four stages at Jackson Square in the Big Easy’s historic French Quarter.

he Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 3, "CBS Super Bowl Park at Jackson Square" will be home to talent, guests and crew as the signature Nawlins locale will serve as the backdrop for the company’s presentation comprising 15 different shows, including entries from Showtime and CBS Sports Network, from nine CBS divisions across multiple platforms. The park will remain open to the public while CBS establishes its bivouac.
“We’re looking to maximize the value of the Super Bowl across CBS Corp.’s assets,” said CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus. “This is going to serve as great exposure for the NFL, the City of New Orleans and programming like The Talk and shows on CBS Sports Network.”
In Jackson Square, there will be four outdoor sets, reflecting the history and architecture of the Crescent City, shared across the various shows. A fifth set will be located across the street in Washington’s Artillery Park for CBS affiliates. All CBS shows and platforms at CBS Super Bowl Park will share facilities, equipment, office space and personnel throughout the week.
McManus said the NFL, which worked with the City of New Orleans, is in control of the venues.
“If we were just doing the pregame or CBS Sunday Morning, they might have given Jackson Square to someone else,” he said.
Rather, CBS will be in a blitz mode with contributions across nine divisions and multiple platforms, (see list below).
CBS Super Bowl Park will be the culmination of a concept that was first discussed last
February, with logistical scouting occurring during the 2012 Final Four, which CBS also aired from the Superdome, said McManus. Meetings with directors of all the participating shows followed. CBS executives are now meeting on a weekly basis to go over the operational game plan.
Will the set up in Jackson Square become the new template for a Super Bowl lead-in? “We’re a long-time partner with the NFL and will be at least that expansive goin g fo rward,” said McManus. “We’ll see what we can come up with.”
As to the prospects of topping Super Bowl XLVI as the largest telecast in U.S. history -- NBC averaged 111 million viewers when the New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots -- McManus said he doesn’t “like to make projections and can’t worry about something I can’t control. But it’s hard to imagine the bar being raised each and every year. Having the highest ratings is not the only barometer of the success of the Super Bowl.”
Schedules and more detail will be announced in the weeks ahead, but the following is the outline for programming originating from Jackson Square leading up to Super Bowl XLVII.
THE SUPER BOWL TODAY – CBS’s The NFL Today hosts James Brown, Dan Marino, Bill Cowher, Shannon Sharpe and Boomer Esiason will count down to kick-off on the Super Bowl XLVII pre-game show.
Super Bowl Live – CBS Sports Network will go primetime at the Super Bowl Monday through Saturday with all the latest news information and guest analysts.
Inside the Super Bowl – CBS Sports Network’s afternoon show will broadcast Monday through Friday from "Radio Row" and on Saturday and Sunday morning from Jackson Square.
CBS This Morning – CBS’s morning news show will broadcast live Thursday through Saturday.
CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley and CBS Evening News Saturday – CBS’s evening news show will broadcast live from New Orleans Friday and Saturday.
Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer – Bob Schieffer will kick off CBS’s Super Bowl programming on Sunday at 10:30 AM, ET.
THE TALK – Network television’s fastest-growing daytime talk show will broadcast live Monday through Friday (2 p.m. (ET) / 1 p.m. (CT/PT) with a live studio audience. Co-hosts Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood and Aisha Tyler will welcome celebrity guests and highlight the local flavor of New Orleans
THE LAte Late Show with Craig Ferguson – Craig Ferguson will tape before a live audience for a special edition airing on Sunday night after Elementary and local news, wrapping up CBS’s Super Bowl Sunday programming.
NFL Monday QB – Phil Simms, Rich Gannon, Steve Beuerlein and other CBS quarterbacks will break down the game from the quarterback perspective on CBS Sports Network.
ROME – Jim Rome will host Rome live Monday through Friday on CBS Sports Network.
Lead Off – CBS Sports Network’s new late-night show with Doug Gottlieb and Allie LaForce will cover all the action and buzz from New Orleans.
Inside the NFL – The Emmy Award-winning Showtime program with James Brown, Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth will air Wednesday. The show is produced by CBS Sports and NFL Films.
Eye on Pro Football in New Orleans – CBSSports.com will broadcast a daily, live one-hour show. Host Kevin Corke and a variety of NFL experts, including CBSSports.com reporters and Eye on Football writers, will provide real-time analysis of the day's top stories and discuss the latest news.
OMG! Insider – Kevin Frazier will be hosting all week leading up to the big game taking viewers inside the top trending stories of Super Bowl XLVII.
CBS SPORTS RADIO – The newly-created CBS Sports Radio will report all week from Jackson Square, in addition to broadcasting from its home base nearby at the convention center at the NFL Media Center on “Radio Row.”
CBS AFFILIATES – CBS Television affiliates covering Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans will use the park during their local broadcasts.
