MTV Pre-Releases Full Season of ‘Wait Til next Year’ On TV Everywhere App

MTV claims it has become the first network to pre-release an entire season of a series exclusively on a TV Everywhere app.

Taking a page from the Netflix playbook for originals like House of Cards, MTV said viewers who get service from participating pay TV partners can access all12 episodes of new docu-drama, Wait ‘Til Next Year, via the authenticated MTV app for iOS devices and the Xbox 360.

The series, which premieres on MTV on Friday, November 1 at 8pm ET/PT, follows one season of the Lincoln Park Railsplitters, a “Bad News Bears-like” high school football team that has lost 43 consecutive games over a five-year span.Executive producers on "Wait ‘Til Next Year" are Craig D'Entrone, Amelia D'Entrone and Sean Travis. Lauren Dolgen, Jessica Zalkind, Julie Schwachenwald and Sara Cohen are the MTV executives in charge of production.

MTV said it recently saw an 82% jump in app installs week-over-week, when it released documentary Miley: The Movement and asked fans to tweet the hashtag #UnlockMiley to access two new clips from the doc exclusively through the app.

Earlier this week, MTV sister channel VH1 made the doc CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story exclusively available via its TV Everywhere app for a week following its televised premiere and encore. VH1 launched its app on October 17.

Currently, customers of the following pay TV providers can access full-length episodes via the MTV and VH1 apps: AT&T U-verse, Bright House Networks, Cablevision Systems, DirecTV, EPB Fiber Optics, Hawaiian Telcom, RCN, Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable and Verizon FiOS.
