MTV Networks and the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association will host their second-annual media and entertainment panel discussion, "Examining the Portrayal of People of Color in Television and Film."

The panel will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 1515 Broadway in New York.

Topics will include the role media executives play in accurately portraying people of color; the recipe for creating and sustaining nonoffensive, culturally conscious programming; and the ways people of color can make a greater impact on their public portrayal.

Panelists will include moderator Larry Irving, president of the Irving Information Group and former assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce; Byron F. Marchant, executive vice president, general counsel and chief administrative officer of Black Entertainment Television; Christina Norman, president of VH1; Johnathan Rodgers, CEO of TV One; Karen Ramspacher, VP of primary research at Oxygen Media; Michael Eric Dyson, professor of African-American and religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania; and music-video director Benny Boom.

“The participants in this panel all have tremendous experience dealing with the many tough issues surrounding diversity in media, and I look forward to an engaging discussion,” MTVN executive VP and general counsel David Sussman said in a prepared statement.
