NAB 2017: Sling TV Pitches Discounted AirTV Player Bundle

Offers AirTV Player and Adapter for $50 to subs who prepay for three months of Sling TV 4/25/2017 10:08 AM Eastern

Sling TV, Dish Network’s OTT TV service tailored to cord-cutters, is offering a deep discount on the AirTV Player and AirTV Adapter to customers who agree to prepay for three months of service.

Per one version of the promo, Sling TV is selling that device bundle for $50, down from the regular price of $129.99, to customers whose base service is $20 or more.

Other AirTV discount options include prepaying for four months of Sling TV, if subs are paying between $15 to $20 per month, or prepay for six months, if the Sling TV customer is paying for a package that is less than $15 per month.

AirTV is an OTA/OTT combo device for cord-cutters that runs on Android TV. Dish introduced AirTV in January at CES, and recently released a firmware update that enables the AirTV guide to integrate local channels that are received over-the-air.

In a blog post about the promo, Glenn Eisen, Sling TV’s chief marketing officer, noted that the company is also offering a 25% savings on RCA antennas for AirTV customers who need to capture broadcast TV channels that are delivered over-the-air.

Among other device deals, Sling TV is also offering a free Roku Express to subs who prepay for two months of Sling TV, or 50% off a Roku Premiere+ to those who prepay three months of Sling TV.

Sling TV also gave its web site a face lift today, and is starting to use “A La Carte TV” branding for the service, which starts at $20 per month for a skinny bundle of channels alongside add-on packages and premium channels.

In announcing the new messaging, Roger Lynch, Sling TV’s CEO, cited a consumer study conducted by Sling TV in February that found that four out of five pay TV subscribers want a la carte TV.

“Sling TV refuses to simply replicate the Old TV model,” Lynch wrote. “Today, we are doubling down on a concept we think is vital to our customers. We are dedicating ourselves to being the only provider capable of delivering A La Carte TV.”
