Nat Geo to Dole Out Last Assignment

Citing low ratings and high costs, National Geographic Channel is dropping its nightly National Geographic on Assignment series March 26.

As a result of the impending cancellation, the network will lay off approximately 12 of the 30 staffers of the show, formerly dubbed National Geographic Today, according to network officials.

NGC revamped the 30-minute show in November in an effort to boost its ratings, which typically ranged from a 0.1 to a 0.2. The show’s new focus on one issue per night, instead of several daily news items, failed to lure viewers, though.
