NBA Reaches CBA Deal

6/21/2005 10:36 AM Eastern

ESPN, Turner Network Television and the FSN regional sports networks were breathing a sigh of relief Tuesday after the National Basketball Association averted its second lockout in six years.

Sources said the NBA and the league’s player’s union reached a deal Tuesday afternoon on a new collective bargaining deal that runs through the 2010-11 season. NBA officials could not be reached for comment on the matter, but the league had scheduled a press conference late Tuesday afternoon to announce the deal.

The CBA agreement extends beyond the current national cable-television agreements with ESPN and TNT, both of which expire in 2008. The league lost a portion of the 1998-99 season due to a work stoppage.
